I think if an emotion is present within you, there is a purpose for that. It has to become something else. To give it up to some "external power" means to forget that WE ARE that power. Why no ttry to see if we can reansfor the painful nature of that emotion by focusing our loving attention on it and then use that reservour of power for creative and positive purposes.
